The choice of the letter is believed to be because it was an unused letter after A, B, C, which are commonly used in set theory to define sets.
In internet culture, "e" is often used as a reaction, originating from the "markiplier E" or also known as "lord marquaad E" meme from the "Deep Fried Memes" series.
