A type of rock music starting in the late 70s/early 80's that evolved from Punk rock and ended up creating the Goth subculture.
Gothic Rock bands include: Joy Division, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim, The Cure, The Birthday Party, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Virgin Prunes, etc. etc..

Rap rock is a hybrid of rap and rock music.
You can usually find traditional instruments of rock like guitars, bass guitars, and drums. Vocals can be sung, rapped or both. You may also see electronic sampling equipment, scratch pads and a DJ.
Now here's the part that some kiddies can't seem to get right: Rap rock is a broad definition for the hybrid genre. Nu metal and rapcore are just specific examples of rap rock.
Nu metal tends to be heavier, harder music with electronic elements, it leans more towards metal (hence the name). Bands such as Slipknot, KoRn, and Godsmack fall into this category.
Rapcore is more of a hybrid between rap and hardcore punk (instead of metal). Bands like House of Pain, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine and some of the works of KoRn are good examples of this genre.

Get the Rock It Out mug.Here's a litte history for you all. Many people don't know that the term rock-n-roll was also a slang word for sex or sexual intercourse in the late 1940s and early 1950s. It was particularly used by teens or the younger people in those days similar to the way people today use the word "freak". Just listen to some of the lyrics and titles of the past 2 decades. "Rock you all night, Rock the boat, I'll rock your world." Because of the sexual reference the terem implied, it resulted in on of the early reasons why conservative adults back in those days disapproved of the rock-n-roll as a type of main stream music. It was especially in the early 1950's that the number of young people (under 25)in the US who used a car or truck as basis for transportation increased drastically. There-fore more people were having sex in automobiles. And when 2 people drove to make out areas and got "it" on the car would then rock back and forth. Thus many people referred to having sex as rock-n-roll. Example is below.

Music that is not about expressing the raw emotion or energy that is rock, but instead a kind of masterbatory limp sadness. Some of the best rock contains elements of sadness and helplessness, but honestly express their frustrations through modes of both melancholic somberness as well as ventilative "rocking out." Instead of regaining one's power through the "rock", "Wuss rock" does the very opposite and allows the crybaby whose girlfriend dumped him to continue crying into his perfume-scented pillow.
