A 21st birthday party where the birthday-person is given a thick paper sign. The front side of the sign is designed to include things iconic to the person alongside with the name of the party. Sign nights typically have a theme which can be reinforced through decorations and attendee outfits.
Sign nights were popularized by students at the University of Florida and then spread across the southeast.
