Sushi stare

When you're out with a friend and order a party plate of sushi. Towards the end of the meal you're both feeling stuffed but there are a few pieces left. So you sushi stare each other hoping the other person will opt for the larger piece. When one piece is remaining a sushi stare has been known to last over five minutes.

My boyfriend gave me a sushi stare until I ate the last maki roll out of guilt.

Online Death Stare

When two people who like eachother are both online, both wanting to talk to eachother, but both too scared to IM eachother, thus resulting in a race to see who will swallow their pride first.

person 1: "man i was online for 2 1/2 hours waiting for Florence to IM me, but she didn't."
person 2: "well did you IM her?"
person 1: "naw... i just gave her the online death stare"
person 2: "nice, that'll get you laid for sure.."

1000 Yard Stare

The 1000 Yard Stare, or the 2000 Yard Stare, was a symptom of battlefield stress and exhaustion. It became named so during World War II, because the victim would become unresponsive and stare "a thousand yards off".

After the invasion of Peleiu, many Marines would fall victim to the 1000 Yard Stare after numerous days of endless combat.
