Being shown the car is a euphemism for being let go by your boss or for mass layoffs because of budget cuts or because of a massive loss in profits or because the higher ups spent the money on themselves!

This euphemism originated from bungie’s CEO firing half of the workforce to buy some cool cars but before he let them go he showed them his car collection!
