radio-ham

Common-use word for Government licenced 'Radio Amatuer Operator'. Often thought to be a CB operator, but with much more technical knowledge and apparatus for world-wide communication. Some "hams" are quite content to 'work around the corner' with very simple equipment, whilst others use earth-moon-earth and satellites to communicate with each other. Many Governments register 'radio-hams' as emergency telecoms stations in the event of national disasters etc.

Boy- "Hey mister, are you a CBer?"

Elmer - "No, I'm a Radio-Ham - a bit like a CBer's big brother, but much more complicated"

A two way radio device for short and long distance communication. There are many ham operators around the world and most ham radios are able to talk around the world depending on the solar and ionosphereic conditions. A license is required to operate these devices.

A modern or old device that is looked at as "crappy", "slow", or "ancient" by others. Mostly told by people with fast and great technology to people with slow, outdated, or crappy technology. A ham radio set is an ancient radio system which requires TONS of wires and confusing setup. The ancient set radio of the ham was invented in 1921. DATS OWLD!

Your laptop is such a ham radio set. It only has 4 gigabytes of RAM with a resolution of 700 as mine has 10 gigabytes of RAM with a resolution of 2140.
