The replacement of a thiophenyl group with a phenyl group means that MPA is 1/4 the strength of amphetamine and 1/6 the strength of methamphetamine. Unlike methamphetamine, amphetamine and methiopropamine are safe to use. Methiopropamine is safe long term.

It has been put in schedule 1 in the United States before being fully studied just like JWH-018, JWH-073, and JWH-200.
