Practifriend 

A practice friend. Someone who you may spend time with but with whom you really don't share a lot of information. Typically this is a person you do something with to see if you like them and/or the activity or group you're thinking of joining.

Chris was my practifriend while I figured out if I wanted to hang out with that group.
