As a “monkey wrench” is used as a term to describe an unforeseen element that disrupts your plan or routine ... but a “Money Wrench” has the additional side effect of causing you lost money or wages.
I would love to finish the final steps of this project with you so we can get paid, but my on-call job is throwing me a “money wrench” .

A fictitious tool. A monkey wrench has no left-handed or right-handed versions. Often used as a practical joke, i.e. telling someone to find a left-handed monkey wrench for you.
