‘Venture Hijacking’ is a sociological
situation or phenomena whereby an
individual or group A suffers the consequences of another
individual or group B who has either attempted or succeeded in overriding or hijacking the venture of the former A.
Venture-Hijacking Examples:
1. Bernie Sanders and the Black Lives Matter Activist who hijacked his campaign speech to promote their own ideas. In this situation, Bernie Sanders was a victim of venture hijacking as he had organised a public gathering event to promote his campaign efforts to become the Democratic nominee. However, some female black lives matter activists ‘hijacked’ his platform to push their own political views.
2. During the middle of a meeting in the Quentin Tarantino movie ‘Kill
Bill,’ a
Japanese Yakuza gang member named ‘Tanaka’ starts
talking disparagingly about O-
ren Isshi’s (the
gang leader’s) bi-racial and national heritage and insinuating that she was not
fit to lead the
Crazy 88
gang, as she is not pure Japanese. This scene is called ‘Tanaka loses his head.’
In this situation O-
ren Isshi is the victim of ‘venture hijacking’ as she had called a meeting with her
gang members in order to discuss matters in relation to gang business and one of her disgruntled gang member hijacked the focus of the meeting and started talking reckless nonsense about her being their leader. For which he pays the penalty of decapitation.
In the examples set out above an individual or group can be identified to have been ‘venture-hijacked’ or being a victim of ‘venture-hijacking.’
