Philosophy 

The highest and most noble academic discipline one can study.

Philosophy undertakes the task of determining the fundamental nature of human existence with thorough logical analysis. Philosophy can be broken down into four major branches:

1. Metaphysics: the study of ultimate reality
2. Epistemology: the study of knowledge
3. Ethics: the study of human actions and conduct
4. Aesthetics: the study of art and beauty

Once you study philosophy, science doesn't seem as interesting.

The art of thinking.

Philosophy is the ability to conceptualize and articulate with other people, ideas on society, the world, how it functions, people's roles in it, existence itself and even things such as sports and athletics. It is a very narrow-minded concept that philosophy only has to do with deep thought, but it can also be rather light.

Ultimately it is usually viewed as reading others thoughts, such as Aristotle, and learning arguments so you can repeat them, but I believe one whom follows philosophy would be more concentrated on finding new ways to think about things, or would rather have intelligent conversations on subjects and enjoy just simply thinking about them.

You can spend your whole life reading philosophy and never be a philosopher, but you can spend five seconds and ask one question and go farther than many go in years.

It was late one night when I was on a road trip with my two friends, Brian and Laura, when we decided to pull over to the side of the road and retire.

"Looks like you'll be sleeping in the car while Laura and I have the tent," Brian said.

"Here's the blanket," he continued, "You'll be fine with this, won't you?"

"Yeah," I said.

"Are you sure?"

"How is one sure of anything?"

"Or that there is any thing to be sure of," he added.

We both nodded, contemplating the profundity.

Person: People need suffering to give meaning to life and we need philosophy to understand the world.

Me: What if If we reprogrammed the human brain to be happy all the time with what if magic or I just easily poke a hole in any argument you make just like any other ism and theory.

William James described it as "the pursuit of thinking objectively about the fundamental issues."

Consists in subjecting the whole of human knowledge to rigorous scrutiny. Major fields of philosophical thought include Metaphysics, Epistemology, Ethics, Aesthetics.

I want to know how we can know that we know that which we think we know. Thus, I am majoring in philosophy.
