Slang derogatory term used to describe the indigenous Maori of New Zealand. It implies such connotations as: scruffy, poor, thief, coloured.

The term came into affect in the 1900s when a white racist majority wanted to label something they deemed to be inferior. Similar to "nigger and abo"
We are not "Horis" we are the native peoples of New Zealand, treat us with respect, for we were here before you. We let you into our country and were great hosts to you.

Would a "hori" have been so nice? It seem that "Pakeha" are the Horis, for you stole our land, stole our language, and robbed us of our culture.
