Refers to a believer of Trotskyism, one of many offshoots of Marxism, established against Stalinism. Named for the intellectual Leon Trotsky, who advocated for - among many things - internationalism, soviet democratization, and decentralized economic planning. Trotskyists thus opposed containing socialism to one country, the massive bureaucracy of the Soviet Union at the time, and the anti-democratic current of the period.
Depending on who you ask, Trotskyists are either enemies of the working class or fundamentally no different from Stalinists. Looked down on by Tankies and capitalists alike.
Fogey/fogy /fougi/ sl. (early 18C+, orig. Scot) old-fashioned, stuck-in-the mud.

You think me an old fogeyand an old tory, his thoughtful voice said. I saw three generations since O’Connel’s time. I remember the famine. Do you know that the orange lodges agitated for repeal of the union twenty years before O’Connel did or before the prelates of your communion denounced him as a demagogue? You fenians forget some things. (James Joyce, Ulysses. Penguin Books,1992. p. 38)
