Ethiopian name for a fried doughnut pastry. Unlike the Italian bombolone, it has no filling. It resembles a plain, un-glazed doughnut- but
definitely tastes better.
One theory for the different name is the Ethiopian tradition of purposely
misspelling popular Italian names or phrases. During the 1st Italy-Ethiopian War, Haile Selassie ordered Mussolini's name to be pronounced as Mussol-ONI.
