bumbelino

Ethiopian name for a fried doughnut pastry. Unlike the Italian bombolone, it has no filling. It resembles a plain, un-glazed doughnut- but definitely tastes better.

One theory for the different name is the Ethiopian tradition of purposely misspelling popular Italian names or phrases. During the 1st Italy-Ethiopian War, Haile Selassie ordered Mussolini's name to be pronounced as Mussol-ONI. Power to the people.
Hirut: Aman, let's go buy a bumbelino ..
Aman: Sure, let's go for shai (tea)- it'll serve as breakfast.
