It is simply the realization of the belief that fuels modern feminism, that because male government leaders from centuries past were sexists who oppressed women, ALL male homosapiens, especially "straight white males" (the ultimate oppressors), are required to live in constant fear of being physically and emotionally hurt, abused, or even killed by women and never being able to defend themselves, just for being born with a Y-chromosome, because God forbid we can all just forgive each other, let the past die in the past, and treat everyone equally.
