Great Britain

An often misused term. Great Britain in the geographical sense refers to the largest of the 800+ islands that make up the British Isles.

In the political sense it refers to the union between Engalnd Scotland and Wales, and the central government of the same. (Add Northern Ireland into the equation and you get The United Kingdom)

Most people in Britain refer to themselves as English, Scottish or Welsh, Not British.

tribute band

A sad waste of space 'musical' combo who so despirately want to be like their musical heros they try to impersonate them and ended up being paid far more than their worth for doing it. The up shot is that in many cities bands and artists who play their own material are excluded from playing the better venues in the area because all the slots are filled by these third rate karioke clones.

"Sorry lads it's tribute bands only on the weekend" (A phrase often heard by original material musicians.)

Portishead

An influential but egocentric bunch of musicians from Bristol in the UK.
Renowed for their offensive, prima donna attitudes to the staff of all venues unlucky enough to put them on. In fact their split was partly down to the fact no promotor or venue would touch them in the end.

"After last night, there is NO WAY Portishead are ever coming back to play here again"
(the management of Bristols New Trinity Arts Centre after a typical portishead gig)

First Bus

A UK public transport company who provide the worse public transport service in the known universe and treat their staff little better than slaves.

I wouldn't work for first bus if they tripled the pay. (which would still be fuck all)

M25

The London Orbital Motorway, 10 lanes wide (in places), about 100 miles in circumference and with traffic moving at about 15 mph. Also used as the term to define the limits of the area covered by Greater London

The M25 always tops poles for the worst road in the UK.

golden duck

Cricketing term

similar to duck, but to be clean bowled by the first ball the batsman faces.

That's the third Golden Duck of his season, and it's only his second game.
