Something which falls just short of excellent, while remaining perfectly adequate. From the fact that the Dutch breakfast of ham, boiled eggs and bread is almost, but not quite, bacon, eggs and a fried slice.
"The 12:45 to London St. Pancras has been cancelled due to engineering works in Latvia. An alternative bus service is being offered. Midland Mainline would like to apologise for this utter Dutch Breakfast"
