cam

A camshaft. Automobile enthusiasts who speak of "cams" are usually describing aftermarket camshafts designed to provide greater flow of air/fuel mixture, and therefore more torque and horsepower, than the stock camshafts that come with most vehicles.

When Aaron gets paid on Friday, he plans to go to the speed shop and buy a Shrick 256 cam.

In car culture, an integrated circuit or circuit board, manufactured by an aftermarket company, intended to replace the stock electronic control unit and boost power by changing the ignition and fuel-mapping of the vehicle.

Dude, you could add twenty horsepower to that GTI of yours just by adding a chip!

v-tec

The VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) engine produced by Honda. Popular among those who modify and race Japanese cars.

Also, a car fitted with such an engine.

Billy was sure that his VTEC could beat a Volkswagen with a VR6 engine.
