An electronic musical instrument that can generate it's own sounds. Not to be confused with sampler.

A MiniMoog is a synthesizer, a Yamaha Motif is a sampler.

sampler 

An electronic musical instrument that plays back and records sounds so that they can be played using a keyboard or a sequencer. Not to be confused with a synthesizer or ROMpler

A sampler is never going to sound as good as the real instrument.

sequencer 

An electronic music device that allows individual notes to be programmed and played back.

Most of the electronic music you hear is "played" using a sequencer.

ROMpler 

An electronic music device that can only play back recordings of sounds using a keyboard or a sequencer. Not to be confused with synthesizer or sampler.

Those cheap Yamaha PSR keyboards you see in Best Buy are only ROMplers.

Cost per thousand. M=1000 in Roman numerals. Generally used to quote advertising prices on the internet on how many ad impressions you can buy for a certain amount of money.

The CPM on Yahoo is a hell of a lot more than you can afford!
