An old-world (1300s) Austrian dinner dish made from the snout of a dog. Often meticulously prepared, schnaut-making techniques have been handed down through generations of Schnauthoffen - the people of lower South-southeastern Austria. Schnaut is frequently referred to as "crazy, old grandma's dish," or, "what the fuck is that?"
Due to modern restrictions and the advancement of social mores on eating dog, schnaut became passe, and then illegal, in 1922.
