A novel condition in which the sufferer looks upon approaching human beings as threats, just for breathing, and wants them to burn in hell.
What was this moron, this utter fool, coming toward her with his mouth covered and his fucking nostrils exposed?! He was human scum, a killer, and the sight of him filled her with revulsion. At one time she might have found him attractive. But now? Now she wanted to smash him, hard, but that would entail proximity, the last thing she'd ever want to share with another person. She knew she'd contracted The New Misanthropy, but it was a damn sight better than Covid.

A "Friend Request", labeled "People You May Know" which seems to come from another planet. A photo of a member of the opposite sex, with absurdly exaggerated sexual characteristics and a "name" which is a random string of letters. Presumably aroused beyond bearing, you will click "Add Friend" and promptly provide your banking information, credit cards, SSN and all your passwords.

The 22-year-old poet who spoke with poise and eloquence at the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, reading her poem "The Hill We Climb". Ms. Gorman, the youngest inaugural poet in United States history, earned wide praise and admiration for her contribution to an event regarded, by several measures, as historically significant.

As 2020 ended, as 2021 shone with promise, there was reason for hope and much to hope for. Regained dignity for America, a life where everyone could once again move freely, could smile and touch, could breathe together without fear.
