Outrage Culture

Share definition Flag
When people play the victim card and bend over backwards to be as offended as possible when they really aren't. Using hissy fits, political correctness, character assassination, and a false sense of moral authority, the outrager hopes to gain power and public recognition for their brave act of justice as well as a sense of control over their meaningless existence. Often accompanied by demands for financial compensation for their "pain and suffering".
"Why do we have warning labels that say 'Contains peanuts' on peanut jars and 'Contains milk' on milk cartons? Can't we just go back to using common sense instead of having to litigate everything in fear of lawsuits?"

"We only have the outrage culture to blame."

Faux Outrage

Share definition Flag
Pretending one is offended, insulted or generally affronted by something which they really are not. The faux outrage is usually expressed publicly because it is done in the service of an agenda. Those expressing faux outrage usually labor under the delusion that no one can see through them, but most can.
The professional protesters went down to City Hall today to express their opposition to bill 1234. They were drinking coffee and playing marbles until the tv station got there, then all three of them sprung into action and began waving signs and displaying faux outrage after the camera was turned on.

Twitter Outrage Mob

Share definition Flag
Sometimes shortened to TOM, the Twitter Outrage Mob is a large group of people on social media sites (having originated on Twitter, specifically) that attempt to cancel others by use of harassment, bullying, shaming, and/or otherwise silencing those who merely disagree with their own beliefs that they force upon others. They spread falsified information that easily gains traction online and usually results in the individual or company in which they are pressuring to conform to their beliefs. They are the ones who are largely behind Western Cancel Culture.

These people can usually be identified as being blue-haired, white liberal women who recently graduated college with a degree in either the social sciences and/or gender studies because they have no practical skills that can be applied to the real world. However, there have been cases of effeminate men who reside in California who also play an active role in the Twitter Outrage Mob. They reside inside of an echo chamber and so are not used to hearing people with differing viewpoints. They immediately believe that that non-conforming person is a threat, and thus, must be terminated.
Sarah: Why didn't you respond to my friend request on Twitter last night?

Lucas: The Twitter Outrage Mob spam reported my account several times until I was banned.

Performative outrage

Share definition Flag
A marketing tactic where media actively looks for unintentional, out of context, or irrelevant things to be outraged over, usually through identity politics, to create a manufactured feeling of us vs them to keep the working class divided. Instead of fixing bigotry it exacerbates it. This tactic works on people who are bored, lack nuanced thinking, and are easily manipulated into tribalism.
"I'm sick of performative outrage. We all have more in common than we think! Now is the time for empathy and understanding, not division!"

Recreational Outrage

Share definition Flag
Getting mad and venting about political, religious, racial, or other topics and venting about them to the point at which it becomes a hobby. People who enjoy recreational outrage always have something they are mad about that is outside of their own sphere of influence. This is particularly common on Tumblr and Twitter.
Have you been reading Janice's posts lately? I just get sick of all the recreational outrage, she's just an out of touch SJW .

Outrage Party

Share definition Flag
When a bunch of people protest something they don't understand, simply advocating for change from points of extreme outrage or emotion rather than rational thought. They believe they have a monopoly on compassion and justice. They will never attempt to have an honest discussion about what they are protesting as they are too either cowardly, misinformed, mentally ill, or indoctrinated to do so. They will shout down, shame, or demonize any other point of rational thought or view that conflicts with their own rather than try to understand, listen, or learn. They aren't actually protesting, they are having an outrage party.
Guy 1: Did you hear about that mass shooting the other day?
Guy 2: Oh yea, it was horrible.
Guy 1: There's going to be a protest against guns again.
Guy 2: Oh boy, here we go again.
Guy 1: You should go down there and try to talk some sense into them.
Guy 2: There's no point, it's not a protest. It's an outrage party.

Striver

Share definition Flag
The striver is an interesting phenomenon that is seen across college campuses. In essence, the striver is an over-achiever who comes from a working or middle class family. He may be an immigrant. He may have been a slacker in HS who was "born again" into an academic wunderkind. Or he may just be an over-achiever who is keeping at it.

The striver is willing to sacrifice his social life at the expense of Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. The striver is the guy who stays at the library long after you are gone. The striver is the guy who takes 30 credits/semester and considers anything below an A/4.0 failure. The striver doesn't work on campus, he is too busy finding ways to pad his resume instead of working retail or workstudy. The striver lets his grades pay his education by applying to ten scholarships a year.

The striver is a future Soros/Fullbright/Rhodes/Gates/Marshall/etc. fellow. The striver lives to study. For the striver, their fun comes from the rewards they expect to receive in return for their diligence. Be it Law School, B-School, academia, or politics. The striver seeks to find the American Dream through academic success.
Anthony was a striver. He transfered from a TTT to an IVY and graduated in 2 years. He studied his ass off and went to Penn Law. He got a Biglaw offer. But lost it all because of an unmoderated mesasgeboard.

Successful strivers:
- Barack Obama
- Harold Koh

SkyPesos

Delta SkyMiles, also known as SkyPesos, is the frequent flyer program of Delta Airlines. It has a very poor value and hard to use.
- I'm trying to book an award flight to Paris, but I only have 70,000 SkyPesos
- Just forget about it, you don't have enough SkyPesos to fly anywhere.

Hate Draft

1. Select a player (real or fantasy) during a sports draft to spite or anger one or more of your opponents because they had intended to select him/her.

2. Select a player (real or fantasy) during a sport draft to put one or more of your opponents at a strategic disadvantage.
1. Billy hate drafted Chad OchoCinco because he knew Sam had wanted him since he is from Cincinnati. Billy already had plenty of players to fill that position but wanted to make sure Sam didn't get him.

2. Billy hate drafted Peyton Manning because he was the only good quarterback left and he knew Sam had been planning on drafting him.

Utility beer

Share definition Flag
Utility beer is the beer you keep around for the day-to-day moments when beer is a necessity to assist in pedestrian activities (golf, plumbing, yardwork, babysitting, staff meetings, Zoom calls). For the beer snob it is the beer you save for neighbors when they drop in at 3 p.m. on a Tuesday. It is differentiated from the actual high-end beer you save for special events, holidays, and special tastings.
Person 1: Dave, did you bring along those hazy craft IPA's so we could drink while cleaning Lyle's pool?
Person 2: Nope. I just have a bunch of utility beer that Steve dumped on me. Good enough for this. It is only 10:30 a.m.
