Grace hospital in 2007. Her character was portrayed by American actress Chyler Leigh. She was often described as incredibly smart due to her photographic memory. Near the end of her third year as a resident,
Lexie Grey specialized in neurosurgery, being mentored by her sister's husband, Derek Shepherd. This mentorship however came to an end when her shocking death impacted everyone's lives at the hospital. She died on a plane crash on the 17th of
May of
2012. This plane crash claimed the life of her on again-off again boyfriend Mark Sloan as well. This unfortunate event lead to the change in name of the fictional hospital from Seattle
Grace Mercy West Hospital to Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital.
