For the love of the game

Why does someone like doing some specific thing? Because they simply enjoy it, there is no deeper meaning. Originally a sports metaphor, this phrase describing how much someone loves an activity is often intentionally juxtaposed with bizarre, heinous, or otherwise socially unacceptable actions for comedic effect.
From Pathfinder WotR: All Companions Ranked, Mortismal Gaming.

"Camellia here, is a serial killer. She is just murdering people for the love of the game."

From Tom Segura: Disgraceful

"So lady, when you say you're horny *the way guys are* I ask you, are you willing to go into an unmarked building and wait behind a wall for a stranger to stick his dick through a hole in that wall and then you (blowjob noises) polish it off, for the love of the game? Because that's what savages men are!"

for the love of the game

Used to explain preforming an action either out of true love for the subject or (used sarcastically) out of stupidity.
Sarcasm

"Dude, he just wasted wasted his one life!"
"He did it for the love of the game."

Truly
"Did you hear lebron donated 5m to YMCAs to build basketball courts?"

"He did it for the love of the game"

For the love of the game

Doing something because you want to, for the thrill of it, for fun.
“I just found out my favorite celebrity writes for the love of the game!”

for the love of the game

To complete a task or put yourself in a position where you gain no significant benefit other than the adrenaline of the situation.
Person 1: Does he know he gains nothing from doing this?

Person 2: He does, and he's fully committed. At this point, it's just for the love of the game.
