Dial-Up Modem

A computer that requires a telephone line to communicate to another machine on the other side and do a data transfer, often times connected to a PC for use
Person 1 (An newbie): "The Dial-Up modem made weird sounds while I waited for it to connect to the Internet....."

Person 2 (An expert): "Oh don't worry! It's speakers makes these sounds because it's built like a telephone and those sounds are analog signals being turned back into data signals just like the SSTV technology! But these sounds are to check if the connection has problems."
