Conscription

Conscription is when governments force its citizens, usually young, able bodied men, to serve in the armed forces. In most countries, it is only implemented during a time of war, but in some, it also exists during peacetime. It’s a highly controversial subject, and many see it as essentially a form of modern day slavery.

Countries with peacetime conscription include South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Greece, Switzerland, and Austria.
