New England is a region of the United States and is made up of 5 1/2 states. The states in New England are: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and northern and eastern Connecticut*.

New England is best known for its awesome sports teams (both professional and college). It is also home to the greatest fair in the country.

If you can live it in New England you can pretty much live anywhere in the entire world, as New England has a little bit of everything. Generally nice people (interestingly enough the farther north you go the nicer they get). It is true that New Englanders have a different way of driving but it doesn't make us rude it makes us in a hurry!

* As a Nutmugger I'd like to set the record straight on this matter. South-western Connecticut is NOT part of New England and arguable it isn't even part of Connecticut. It is made up of rich executives who work in New York and their trophy wives. The be a bit more specific I am referring to the 203 area (as opposed to the 860 area). The 203 area is full of rich white collar executives and the vultures that feed of of their excess wealth (maids, butlers, drivers, ect..). They worship the cult that sometimes goes by the name of "New York Yankees" and other times goes by the name of "New York Giants". They don't have rough hands and they hire people to mow their lawns and shovel their drive ways (of course if I has a 5 acre lawn and a 3 mile drive I'd do the same...).
1: "I'm from Manchester, Connecticut."
2: "So you're not part of New England than?

1:"No Manchester is in the 860 area. You are referring to the 203 area. Down their they don't work and live off the stock market and inheritances. In the 860 we have to hack it like all the other people from New England."
2: "Ah I never understood that difference before."

New England is home to wicked cold winters and the wicked humid summers.

A 400 year old region in the northeastern United States named after England (no shit!).

It contains the states of Massachusetts (the cultural heart of the region), Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. New England is hilly and verdant and full of old-growth forests. Massachusetts has its baseball, Rhode Island has its beaches, Maine has its lobster, New Hampshire has its cows, and Vermont has its skiing.

Perhaps Connecticut USED to be a part of New England, but now its just "New" New Jersey -- complete with big-haired soccer moms, guidos with gelled up hair, gaudy "mcmansion" subdivisions, Yankees and Giants fans, vast parking lots, garbage dumps, strip malls, NYC rail stations, and rivers of raw sewage. Connecticut is far from the green pastures (literally) of the true New England.

Unlike the New Yorkish Connecticut people, real New Englanders pride themselves in being modest, educated, and making yummy clam chowdah. They also take great pride in their sports teams.
From an actual Boston area radio show transcript (talking about politics in New England):

"...let's be real Connecticut, is part of New York not New England."

A wicked awesome place! Very diverse. Made up of Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Connecticut (debatable). Contrary to popular belief from West Coasters and plenty of Southerners, New York is NOT a part of New England, assholes. We have awesome maple syrup, because we actually have four seasons. The weather changes faster than a pregnant woman's mood swings.
Go to New England, it's the best!

--New England--

New England is an old grouping of states in the northeastern region of the U.S. It has traditionally consisted of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. On rare occasions, New York, and even parts of New Jersey have been considered New England (Connecticut Puritans founded many towns in these states).

--Massachusetts Does NOT Have Friends--

New England is NOT "Massachusetts and friends." Most of the other New England states want nothing to do with those snobby, arrogant Massholes and their sucky driving habits. Go clog up your own retail outlets, seriously. Also, Boston's influence is very small and barely extends into extreme southeast New Hampshire--the rest of these five states has nothing to do with it at all: Boston tends to overstate its importance.

--The Connecticut Debate--

It is debatable whether or not Connecticut really belongs in New England--the western and southern parts of that state are pretty much indistinguishable from New York. On the shoreline of southern Connecticut, you can see the skyline of Manhattan on the horizon--tons of people work there and go there on the weekends for shopping and baseball games. Connecticut is NOT "down" with Massachusetts, nor will it ever be. So, I guess it's not REALLY New England, but it sort of looks like it in places. Connecticut seems more like a Mid-Atlantic state with its ties to New York and northern New Jersey.
At a bar, on vacation in some warm sunbelt state:

Masshole: Wheah ah you from?
Me: I'm from New England.
Masshole: Oh, so yuah a sawx fan?
Me: Actually, I'm from western Connecticut, and everyone there likes New York teams.
Masshole: New Englanduh my ass! You can't call ya self a New Englanduh! Fahk you, go Sox! Yankees ah a bunch a fahkin' queahs! Connecticut is paht of New Yahk, not New England!
