Can be used to catcall, in a conversation while at a social gathering, or as an endearing name. Can be substituted with "sup mami." It literally means "hey baby." Not good for calling your mother; mami means mother. Kind of how we call each other "baby" in English.
Hot woman passes by, I shout "OYE MAMI!"
You met a girl at a bar and you two are hitting it off "Oye mami, give me your number."
Your girlfriend passes by "Oye mami *wink wink* "

Cameroonian mother: “I see your Louis Vuitton purse.. Hm! Tu es vraiment mami nyanga! (You are really mami nyanga”.
Or
“Look at her trying to show off those heels.. Elle aime trop faire le nyanga…” (She likes to do nyanga too much).
