A hitchhiker or highway hobo. A hobo who rides in automobiles rather than on trains.

Boxcar Roberts rode out the last years of his life on the rails increasingly alone and afflicted with melancholy as the Eisenhower interstate system ensured the end of the genuine hobo lifestle even as it gave rise to a new generation of hinayana hoboes.
