A comcyberite who operates in the ambiguous zone between ethical defense and malicious harm. Gray hats
may doxx or harass targets they deem “deserving” (e.g., bigots, scammers) while avoiding
random victims, or they might leak data while also providing removal instructions. They often have personal codes of
honor that they believe justify their actions, but those codes are inconsistent and self‑serving. Gray
hat comcyberites are common in com spaces—they enjoy the power and status of doxxing but want to feel like vigilantes rather than bullies. Their targets are often other com members, streamers they dislike, or
people who “started it.”
Law enforcement treats them no differently than black hats, but within com culture, gray hats are seen as more respectable.
Example: “He doxxed the neo‑Nazi forum, posted their addresses, then sent them
anti‑harassment resources—gray
hat comcyberite, playing
hero while still destroying lives.”
