Bangladasyu

The term ‘dasyu’ was used by the ancient Hindus to describe barbarians. The term ‘Bangladasyu’ — translating to “Bangladeshi barbarian” — has evolved as a slang word used by Indians for a specific category of Bangladeshis, usually Muslims, who display the same Islamist convictions which caused a genocide of their ancestors in the 1970s by the Pakistanis. The principal targets then were the ‘infidel’ Hindus. Yet, many Muslims were also killed owing to erroneous notions of racial and linguistic inferiority vis-à-vis the Pakistanis. Ignorant of history and ingrate towards India, they hate the Indians who arrived as their deliverers in 1971, perhaps in belief of a farcical global brotherhood of Islam. They also entertain florid delusions of capturing certain states of India with which Bangladesh shares a border, hoping for the creation of a ‘Greater Bangladesh.’
“Oh, look! That his country may be submerged by rising sea levels is much less of a concern to him than pipe-dreams of a Greater Bangladesh. Must be a Bangladasyu!”
