Typically meant to be said in an offensive way, implying one is representing negative stereotypes of African Americans. Coined by Leopold H. Wosenburg in the 19th century when he wanted a passive sounding way to address his slaves in attempt to reinforce better compliance, and it was later transformed into the more derogatory terminology.
