Talking from experience

When a person attempts to insult another person, however the insult actually pertains to the person insulting, they are talking from experience. More specifically this is calling psychological projection, however a more loose yet fitting phrase would be "talking from experience".

Some wannabe cyberbullies were acting hard and calling people gay, but we all knew they were just talking from experience.

Grandparent: "Downloading and printing are the same thing!"

Grandchild: "No they are not, you don't even use the internet. You are talking out of your ass, stop living in a 1960's dream world".
