Presumably borrowed from botantical terminology, this term is being used to highlight bright spots in a failing economy... analogous to new growth among a wasteland of dead plants and weeds.

1.A person who is so intellectually challenged, their mental deficencies far surpass that of the individuals who normally qualify for using the short bus. In other words, they are inelligible for the short bus.

2. Beyond merely stupid or retarded.

Yuppie Short Bus

A bright-yellow Hummer 2 SUV.

Derived from the schoolyard slang term short bus--the bus mentally retarded and disabled students ride in--and the fact that, like American school buses, it is bright-yellow and black. Unfortunately, in the case of the Yuppie Short Bus, the retarded person is usually in the driver's seat.

While crossing the street, I almost got creamed by an asshole driving a Yuppie Short Bus and yakking on a cell phone.
