Bucking the Tiger

A move traditionally used by contestants participating in the National Falcon Punching Contest. This move involves taking a stuffed falcon, holding it up in the air, and then catching it with your other hand. Afterwards, you start smashing the stuffed falcon with all of your might against a nearby stallion. Traditionally, the stuffed falcon is provided to the contestant by their grandmother.
"Well," Grandpa says, "back in the old days when I was a kid they used to have this thing called the National Falcon Punching Contest. It was stupid and dangerous, just like this one. Anyway, this one year they decided to add a twist to it. Instead of punching a falcon, they made you try to punch a Tiger..."
"What happened?" you ask.
"The tiger killed everybody."
"Oh."
"Except one guy. He was a real champ. Bogdan the Mountain Man! Ever heard of him?"
"No, I don't think so..." you say.
"Ah, well he's dead now, anyway. But, he named the incident "Bucking the Tiger." So, wanna go find your Dad? He's probably at the casino!"

buku bucks

Many dollars. Often spelled "boo koo bucks" but this is also correct. It's an expression from the Viet Nam War, from American soldiers coming back who had picked up Viet Namese French-isms over there. The French "beaucoups" was pigeonized in Asia. Like how putain became poon tang.
This much Hanoi Hash is going to cost buku bucks.

What the Buck?

The war in Ukraine had made its mark on the current economic and political climate. From the jaw-dropping price of gas and utilities to drastically elevated prices of goods and services, the burden was felt by all. This, coupled with rising inflation (nearly 9%) and the increase of costs of essential goods (to over 33%), without comparative salary increases leads to frustration and disbelief. Jackson Hewitt’s target market of HHI of $15k to $75K was inversely affected compared to the higher HHIs of $75k+. To coin the phrase, “the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer “ felt a very apt sentiment for this target audience. The phrase "What the Buck? expresses this sentiment. Particularly for the working class.
