It was translated by Joseph Smith, prophet, seer and revelator in the mid-1800s. It is read and studied by Latter-Day Saints (LDS) or Mormons. It is not in place of the bible, it just talks about Jesus on a different continent. It is, as I believe, is true and is one of the best things that you'll ever read.
