native guns

An underground Los Angeles rap group made of two emcees and a dj. Anti-capitalist and pro-brown (these guys are Filipinos, did I mention that?) these guys rap for social justice here and overseas. Their music is a huge refreshment for a genre that has been overproduced, overworked, and starting to lose its flavor.

Hit songs: "Champion" "Work It" "Hammer"
Ramon: Hey man, listen to this song by "Native Guns". It kicks ass!

White Friend: Why should I? I'm not Filipino and I don't like rap!

Ramon: Man, these guys are so good, you don't have to be Filipino OR like rap to enjoy their shit.

sun's out guns out

When the winter is finally over and it is just starting to get warm, you wear your short sleeve polo shirts to work rather than a long sleeve. This particularly applies to musclehead italians from the tri-state area who have been dying to show off their bi's and tri's all winter.
-"hey Paul, nice shirt-short sleeves already??"
-"yep. sun's out guns out"
-"but Paul, it's mid April?"
-what do you mean???

Baritone Guns

A unique example of guns. Baritone guns are acquired through the playing the marching baritone.

There are different stages to the development of them: High school, Advanced High School/College, Advanced College/Low DCI, and finally DCI.

For example, the advanced High School/College usually look similar to someone who between medium guns and small guns.

Depending on the person's hand orientation, on guns will usually develop a little larger than the other.
Dude, the trumpets never hold there horns up correctly. They need some baritone guns.

Gunhand

In the old West, nobody ever said "gunslinger."

Hollywood came up with that term in the 1930s. The most common word actually used back then was "gunhand." "Shootist," "pistolier," and occasionally "pistolero" were also used, but less common.

The word "gunslinger" is bullshit, just like so many other things that come from Hollywood.
Friend: "Dude, what's this old black and white cowboy picture?"

Me: "That's my Great-Grandfather when he and his older brothers had to ride with a posse going after a serial rapist in southwest Arizona in 1916."

Friend: "Your gramps was a gunslinger? Cool! He must have shot all kinds of fools!"

Me: "Nobody said gunslinger back then, fuckstick, they were called gunhands. And no, Great-Grandpa wasn't a gunhand just because he knew how to shoot. He wasn't a bounty hunter or anything like that. They went to apprehend the fucker, not just kill him outright. They caught him and brought him back. He stood trial, was convicted, and they hanged his ass."

Guns n' Roses

Easily one of the top 5 bands of the last 20 years, if not the best. To lump them in with '80s hair metal is to do them a disservice. Guns n' Roses is a hard rock band. Best known for the songs "November Rain" and "Welcome To The Jungle," their first album Appetite For Destruction is the best selling debut of all time. The intro guitar riff for "Sweet Child o Mine" is recognized as one of the greatest ever. The band formed in LA in 1985, playing the Hollywood clubs before being signed. Their original lineup was:

W.Axl Rose - Vocals
Slash - Lead Guitar
Izzy Stradlin - Rhythm Guitar
Duff McKagan - Bass Guitar
Steven Adler - Drums

Adler was replaced by Matt Sorum from The Cult, and Gilby Clarke replaced Izzy when he left. Dizzy Reed was added for keyboard duty.

The band was effectively broken up by 1995 or possibly before, with most members pursuing other projects and Axl carrying on the Guns n' Roses name with a new cast of musicians. Slash, Duff, and Matt formed Velvet Revolver with Scott Weiland (ex STP).
It is music's great loss that the band collapsed under the weight of its member's egos, as many predicted that they could have been this generation's Rolling Stones. Perhaps an unlikely Aerosmith-type reunion could still occur, but if not, Guns n' Roses' music will stand the test of time and serve as a testament to the brilliance they showed during their '87-'93 heydey.
Do yourself a favor and check out "Rocket Queen," one of Guns n' Roses' lesser known gems. The style shift in the guitar work toward the end of the song is excellent and totally seamless...
