Reverse Marketing

Reverse marketing happens when an organization’s planned marketing campaign results in negative consequences for their brand. The reason a brand is important is, in part, that it creates trust in that organization, which, in a for-profit business, results in higher sales. Reverse marketing works in the opposite direction.

“Coca-cola decided some years ago to introduce New Coke and stop producing Coke Classic based on blind taste tests that indicated younger consumers preferred the sweeter taste of Pepsi. What they didn’t take into account was the loyalty of Coke buyers to the classic formula. The result was a rapid climb down by the Company and massive reverse marketing.”

Market basket

A Massachusetts Chain food store that doesn’t like advertising, and offers shitty quality products because you get what you pay for. Their chicken smells and tastes rancid, veggies don’t last long, and I’m surprised I didn’t get food poisoning from their seafood. The store is predominantly low income, blue collar, and suburban living humans. Nothing in that store is gourmet and it smells. Their meats are packaged instead of the butcher case. The vibe is shitty and I now understand why nobody in Boston food shops there. They have no city vibe whatsoever. It’s a sad and ghetto store.

One time my older brother asked if I wanted a ride to the grocery store. I said sure. Then he asked which Market basket I wanted to go to, and I looked at him crazy and said I’m too good to shop there. I go to Whole Foods, there meat is very gourmet and they care about you. He tried to talk me into shopping at a nasty store, and that everything there is all the same. I laughed and said No thanks. It’s my money. He still took me to wherever I wanted to go to.

Pirate Marketing

A term describing the so-called "marketing strategy" of spammers who "advertise" or plug) their products and services by using people’s email addresses to send out bulk mail messages to all the contacts they've hijacked, pretending the email was written by the person who's identity they have hacked into.

This is done to suggest a person has tried and tested the product and to spread bogus word of mouth virally. This is entirely fraudulent and can potentially hurt a person’s reputation, but thankfully this method is used by individuals and groups who are just as stupid as the people they are trying to scam (i.e. catering to the lowest denominator). For this reason, the spam message itself is usually as easy to detect as the cheap knockoffs (or stolen goods) they are trying to unload on unsuspecting victims.

Here is a prime example of pirate marketing allegedly sent from a friend:
