term to describe the short-term separation of a set of lovers. when 'carte blanc' is called by either person, both of the people in the relationship are free to do whatever, and more so whoever, they wish. it is different from 'talking time off' or a separation, break-up, etc... in that the possibility of negative consequences are slim.

My girlfriend called carte blanc this week, so I can have fun fucking whoever I want, and she will do the same.

Earth caste build and engineer the weapons the fire caste carry and the ships the earth caste fly. The water caste liases and arbitrates. Without them, the Tau would have no allies. The final, most mysterious of the castes is the ethereal (aun). These lords and (psykers?) rule the Tau and put forth the greater good among the masses.
