preppy goth

A person that only becomes a Goth so they can look cool but really doesn't have a Goth mindset but instead they act like the stereotypical preppy and dress in black clothes and Goth make-up.
Everyone knows that girl is really a prep and she's being a poser but it really can't be proven that she's a poser and it's dumb to call people posers.

Gothic

1) A style of architecture in the 20th century.

2) A tribe, also called Gaul’s, who sacked the Roman Empire, causing the dark ages and medieval times.

2) A subculture who likes the darker side of things, but not really evil. Gothic music has many different genres, there is screamo and death metal sounding gothic music, there's peaceful gothic music, there is a mix of classical instruments and modern rock instruments, and much more. Classic gothic clothing is usually chains and black clothes.

Goths are stereotyped to only wear black, but that is not true. Usually a gothic person likes more than black, like gray, red, blue, or purple for example.

Stereotypes:

All Goths only like black.
All Goths are satanic.
All Goths are evil.
All Goths are miserable.
All Goths like blood.
All Goths like vampires.
Goths never laugh.
Goths cut themselves.
Goths are depressed.
Goths are ignorant teenagers who just want attention.

These are the truths:

Goths who shop at Hot Topic or other stores like that are posers, see Mall Goth.
Goths are usually nice and happy, but not all the time. Some of them just have a darker character, which doesn't make them evil.
Goths are usually peaceful; they almost never settle things by fighting.
Goths do not cut themselves. See emotionally distressed. (NOTE: Emos do not cut themselves either, but emotionally distressed people do.)
Not all Goths view Marilyn Manson, as the 'King of Goth.' Marilyn Manson is not Gothic, he is just a crazy guy who sings metal. He is one of the people who gives Goths a bad name.
Goths are random individuals who happen to like the same things.
Hey did you see that guy sitting outside of Hot Topic? He was all like, 'I'm so Gothic, because just look at me! I have pants with chains on them!' He was such a mall Goth.

Goth

A group once dedicated to being unique and itself, but has since lost its meaning due to heavy sterotyping. Goths are now only considered to be a bunch of loosers who shop at Hot Topic for Nightmare Before Christmas and Invader Zim products.

Goths tend to be hypocritical and say that they aren't goth , and they're only expressing their individuality, but they look like every other goth in the world

They also have a tendency to listen to metal and Marilyn Manson music, and watch (and subsequently idolize) Tim Burton movies, even if they actually hate it.
I'm a real goth because I wear what I like, listen to what I lile , and I don't conform to stupod sterotypes to fit in. And I don't like Hot Topic or Marilyn Manson, so up yours.

Goth Metal

There is much confusion about this term. It appears to have two meanings:

1: Same as Gothic Metal. People often call gothic metal "goth metal" because they assume the two words are interchangable, or because they assume that because it's called "gothic" it must have something to do with goth. It does not.

2: Any metal that so-called goths (usually wannabe goths) listen to. Could be anything from Nightwish to Slipknot depending on the whim of the speaker. This is a ficticous genre, ie there is no such thing as "goth metal"!! Gothic Rock and Metal are POLLS APART!!!
There is no genre of goth music which sounds anthing like metal. Period. Although there is no reason a goth cannot have a varied music taste, there is no connection whatsoever between goth and any form of metal.

For the true definition of gothic metal see gothic metal

kid 2: "Yeah, I love Nightwish she's so GoThiC, I wish I had enough pocket money to get whiteface AND eyeliner"

goth

1. The goth subculture originally evolved in the late '70s and early '80s out of the punk subculture.
goth bands: Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Alien Sex Fiend, Specimen

2. There are also sad little teens who listen to metal and consider themselves 'goth', but all they are are metalheads who happen to like the colour black and truly have no knowledge of what the goth scene came from.
NON-goth bands: Slipknot, Cradle of Filth, HIM, Marilyn Manson

3. Also non-goth are cybergoths (aka gravers, which is short for goth + raver), although they are sometimes incorrectly labeled goth. But most do tend to realise they are not goth and identify more with the industrial subculture.
cybergoth bands: VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk, Icon of Coil, Razed in Black
1. The goth backcombed his hair before going out to get more of that 80s' goth look.

2. The teenager shopped at Hot Topic and bought some baggy pants and a Cradle of Filth t-shirt in an attempt to be a "goth". Unfortunately, he failed.

3. The cybergoth had neon green hair extensions and danced to VNV Nation.
