Since punk began, a poser could be defined variously as somebody who thinks Avril Lavigne is "punk," goes to Warped Tour to see Yellowcard while ignoring The Damned, is straight-edge for all the wrong reasons, identifies as punk but is scared of the pit, listens to emo convinced that men with slicked-down bangs and lyrics about trivial high school crushes are huge emotional dramas, etc etc... While the term is useful in delineating false punks from those who truly make the effort to live a DIY lifestyle, ultimately, EVERYBODY is a poser, especially anyone who preaches tolerance while judging what's punk and what's not, makes arbitrary judgments based on a zine's recommendation, or god forbid, looks up punk terms online.

Proper-Fan

Proper-Fans are the ideal kind of fan. They have their fandoms, and they deserve them. A Proper-Fan knows ample info about his fandom, and takes it seriously-but not too seriously. Proper-Fans can be created at any point in a fandoms history. For instance, a Lord of the Rings Proper-Fan can be created after he watches the movies, if he then proceeds to read the books, etc, and remained a fan after the hype died down. Proper-Fans handle remakes of their fandom relatively well, provided it doesn't completely destroy their beloved characters.

Beth became a Casual-Fan of Transformers after seeing the 2007 movie, and a Proper-Fan after the 2009. She researched the fandom, quickly latching onto Transformers G1. She bought the series, has the merchandise, and gets extremely irritated with the Psuedo-Fans who flaunt their wannabe-ism and really don't know what the heck they're talking about.

Poser Man

'Poser man' is the term dubbed to a man who feels that his physical appearence is far more important than any other attribute of his existance. Commonly applied to males who spend more time shirtless than shirted, this English neologism is derived from the synonyms 'arrogant' and 'twit'.

William: "Oh my, look at that man outside his house. See his rippling torso! I admire how it glistens in the winter snow. Say, isn't it rather cold to be shirtless?"
