Down South

is a cultural and literally geographic subregion in the Southern United States such as Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas. The term was first used to describe these states most dependent on plantations and chattel slavery during the early period of United States history. The region suffered economic hardship after the American Civil War and was a major site of racial tension during and after the Reconstruction era. State governments enshrined white supremacy as a guiding principle and worked to deny political rights and economic opportunities to black citizens, partly through Jim Crow laws. The Civil rights movement ushered in a new era, sometimes referred to as the New South. Before 1945, the Deep South was often referred to as the Cotton States, since cotton was the primary cash crop for economic production.

Upside Down Mustard Container

Upside Down Mustard Container (noun)

1. An idiotic attempt at an insult by someone who can't figure out what a good metaphor is.

2. A plastic container for holding and serving mustard, usually a squeeze bottle that can be placed upside down so that the contents are more quickly and easily accessed.

Time slipped away as he searched his idle brain for the perfect insult after an acquaintance had called him out on his usual shenanigans. Unfortunately, nothing came, so he blurted out, "I hate you! You upside down mustard container!" The man on the receiving end laughed and laughed, and then turned and walked away. He hasn't stopped laughing to this day. Not realizing just how lame his comment was, the one hurling the lame attempt at an insult held his head extra high, smiled in a way that looked more creepy than proud, and patted himself on the back for being such a creative, strong young lad.
