Peckerwood

A peckerwood is a white Carlos and or a rural white southerner, usually poor, undereducated or otherwise ignorant and bigoted, the term gained popularity in the deep south during the early twentieth century and was meant to be derogatory. It is a reversal of the name of the red bellied woodpecker which had a patch of red on the back of it’s head and neck, therefore a peckerwood is a redneck, terms that describe similar groups of people are trailer trash or white trash but neither of those have the same effect or ring to them as peckerwood does.

A term that originated as a slur to poor, white southerners, mainly rednecks, honkies, and whiteys. But just as “Nigger” was meant to offend it is now used by blacks (Nigga) as a term used in comradeship, which has now occurred for Peckerwood. California White Supremacist Prison and Street gangs now coined the term Peckerwood or simply ‘wood’ to refer to each other. It can be used offensively or affectionately as a sign of respect, depending who you are or whom you’re saying it to.

Those Peckerwood white boys are nothing to play with, those woods won’t hesitate to put you in your place!
