To shorten a sentence, for instance LOL is short for Laugh Out Loud.
Same as FYI is short for For Your Information and etc etc etc

Stuff like that are ALL abbreviations.

LOL, LMAO, ILY and more are all abbreviations.

DNA = Do Not Abbreviate
