Its is, physically, the pile of the hot embers underneath a fire. Metaphorically, it is the living breathing heart of the fire. Like a planetary core, it is the source of heat that ultimately generates an atmosphere. Within it's sphere of influence there is a climate that can be sustained by the thoughtful application of fuel.
