Red New York

A extremely rare phenomenon where the state of New York votes Republican in a presidential election. Since the time of the Great Depression (1933), New York has voted for a Republican president only 6 times. Of those 6 times, majority of those elections had a Republican Presidential winner by a landslide victory. The last time New York voted Republican, was when Reagan won a land slide victory in 1984.

Person 1: Will red New York happen in 2024?

Person 2: You mean if in 2024 the Republican Party can make a Reagan style landslide victory? Probably not.

Red top

Dating back to the early 1900’s. Associated with breaker boys who were employed to break up coal into manageable pieces. The boys would get soot and debris in their finger Tips that would cause pain, swelling and a red discoloration. Hence the term “Red Tops”. At the time the best solution was to pee on your hands to flush out the coal dust. After a while the boys would develop a higher tolerance or Calluses.
