Shadow Shifting

The process by which something gradually fades from visibility or awareness—not because it’s gone, but because it’s operating beyond the range of detection. Still present. Still active. Just no longer seen.

Flame shift

To deflect judgment for being a terrible person and/or doing terrible things by jumping on the momentum of hate toward someone else. Typically used by canceled influencers/celebs in an attempt to regain public favor and win back their audience.
Despite being extremely problematic figures in their own right, Jeffree Star and James Charles have chosen to flame shift to Mikayla Nogueria for lying to her fans, hoping that the community will forget their much worse misdeeds.

The Soft Shift

(Verb) The unethical act of your Precinct's Captain or Lieutenant (in some cases Sergeant), assigning a shift to you with no prior notice or attempts to inform you.
The Soft Shift is typically accompanied by a firm, "come on (your name)... I know you saw it on your schedule... and now I don't have any other Officers to get it covered..."
