The term "Emo" is used as counterculture; it is an abreviation of the word "emotional". Emo it's defining not only an attitude, but also a fashion that are coming from emocore (emo music). Emocore is a combination between hardcore and punk music which was very popular in Washington DC in the late 80's. The emo culture continued to develop between '90 and '00, reaching the height of its popularity today.

Any kid under 5'5 that usually wears black skinny jeans and listens to unhealthy amounts of my chemical romance.

For your information this was written by a punk and not an emo, there's a difference
Emo or Emotive is a music movement that began in the mid-1980s in Washington DC. The "emo" genre is more of an umbrella of music genres such as post hardcore, pop punk, indie and other styles. The emo genre is often fused with other styles creating genres such as emo pop, emoviolence, and melodic emocore. There is also the emo subgenre of scream which uses a style of "screaming" along with or as the main vocals.
Then of course there's the stereotypical emo, skinny jeans, wears black and is an emotional mess. Wrong, most emos are not like that. They are more or less better in touch with their emotions than that girl on the cheer team. Yes, emos do tend to dress a certain way but every emo is different and will express themselves differently. A British metalcore emo will wear Asking Alexandria tanktops, a post hardcore emo will wear a Sleeping With Sirens sweatshirt, a powerviolence emo will wear a Kuza shirt, everyone is different.
Deal with it.

"Oh, him? He's Pete Wentz. He's like, the emo king."

Something that too many bias bastards should shut the fuck up about! I's whatever you want it to be! It's a lifestyle that doesn't have to include cutting or black hair. You just need to be yourself and act however you want to be. It's a stupid clique that no one should care about! Everyone is equal to the emos! No one is better and no one is worse! Everyone is the same!
I'm an Emo and I have manic depression! But I dress fucking weird!!! Bright clothes and dark clothes!!! Who fucking cares!!!! I'm emo in my own definition!!!!!

Emo is NOT a genre of music, or a grop of pissy fags. Emo is the way they dress, they act, and their perspctive on things.
the way they dress: usually choppy, long, "swooshy" hair. Either Black, bleach blonde or brunette. they have lip, ear, and nose peircings and where black eye make-up. the bangs cover the face and they wear a assortment of rubber band braclets from hot topic or spencers.
The way they act: known to be very romantic, sensitve, mysterious, and shy. But once you get close to one they open up to you and are always there fr you no matter what. so to all them bitchy preachers who think if we wear chains and such, that we are devil worshipers (which some are) fuck you. it's who we are. its what we want. If we gived a fuck what other people thought, we probably would try to fit in with them.
They call us clones, have they looked at themselves??? all kakie shorts and abercrombie bs clothesthat cost 50 dollars for clothing that rips when you put it on?? at least our clothes last.
we also really enjoy music. we love music. it gets us going and gives us this feeling in our chest that makes your heart beat fast and moves you.
