We have advised my younger daughter to select her high school courses based on the highest level for which she can easily receive an A or B. I always believed that challenging yourself meant taking any class in which you were interested and giving it your best shot. However, there is no reward if you try and fail. So sadly, I want my younger daughter to "go for the grades" rather than challenging herself and stretching to learn more. It seems that the higher GPA will open doors to more colleges and also to more merit-based aid to be able to afford the colleges.

Get the go for the gradesmug. 5th grade is your time of life when you have to suffer from 5 DLC insight assignments that have 60 questions each and we have to do 5 NWEA's so that is my definition of a nightmare. If you tell someone what grade are they in, they well eternally float in the world of obscurity

Get the 8th grade homug. The second year of high school. People who are in this grade are usually cocky because they’re not freshmen anymore, but they don’t understand that they’re still underclassmen, which makes them useless. This is also a pretty easy year, unless you’re taking Geometry. And this is the year you can be able to get a job & your driving permit. This is considered a filler year and it’s not really that important and the workload is pretty simple, nothing too extra. And this is the last easy year you’re gonna have before junior year, so you better enjoy it.
Junior: “What grade are you in”?
Sophomore: “10th grade”
Junior: “Wow, so you’re in the easiest grade”
